El Ministro de Comercio, Industria y Turismo, Luis Guillermo Plata, aseguró que el incremento de visitantes internacionales, hace parte de los logros y metas de esa cartera, que ha venido trabajando en convertir al país en un destino turístico de clase mundial.
De acuerdo con cifras de la Oficina de Estudios Económicos del Ministerio de Comercio Industria y Turismo, según el DAS, llegaron en julio 114.985 pasajeros extranjeros, 14.607 más que en junio.
En su mayoría los visitantes fueron ciudadanos estadounidenses; 158.190 entre enero y julio; lo que significa un incremento del 4.8 por ciento respecto al mismo período del año anterior. Los pasajeros provenientes de Estados Unidos fueron el 23.4 por ciento del total de viajeros extranjeros por vía aérea.
Con estas cifras, el reto es alcanzar un volumen de 4 millones de visitantes extranjeros por año en 2010, incrementando en un 100% los ingresos por turismo al pasar de 2.000 millones de dólares anuales a 4.000 millones de dólares al final del cuatrienio.
